Canoe Trailers - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What size trailer do I need for a canoe?

We suggest that the trailer be 2 to 3 feet longer than the canoe. This way space can be left in front of the canoe for turning radius and there is enough trailer length left to adequately support the canoe. It’s generally acceptable for the canoe to hang up to 3’ off the back of the trailer.

What size trailer do I need for a 16 foot canoe?

The trailer itself should be 14 feet to 15 feet long.

How Do I Choose the Best Canoe Trailer?

ProSport boats only carries trailers made in America by brands that been around for a long period of time.

How much does a canoe trailer cost?

This will depend on the trailer’s size, what is made out of, and how the steel frame tubing is finished (paint vs galvanizing). We carry galvanized canoe trailers that range from $1,299 for a single canoe trailer to $4,979 for a 12 place dual axle canoe trailer.

Should I choose an aluminum or galvanized steel canoe trailer?

We recommend galvanized steel trailers since they offer excellent corrosion protection and superior durability at a lower cost than Aluminum trailers. Welds on Aluminum trailers can weaken and break over time.
